Most Adventurous Trip Downhill
It was an unusual day today, I was supposed to
go for a Van Panchayat meeting to Peoda and it was Talla Peoda not Malla Peoda. Malla
Peoda was further away than Malla Peoda. I have observed that there are certain
villages that have two regions-Talla and Malla for eg. Ramgarh. The concept is that
Malla part of the village is on the
elevation and Talla is on a depression. Wish it was the other way round, it
would've made more sense. Anyways we walked from Orakhan all the way to Peora
Malla which is more than 5 kms and then from there we called up the contact
person to find out where exactly where we were supposed to go. I missed that just
five minutes before we got the call, we thought we were lost and were praying
that we didn't had to go back. After the call came it was clear where we had to
go but it was not at all clear how we should go about getting there! No
kidding! There was a road that we were able to see from Malla but in between Talla and that road there was this mountain we had to go down on. I had two girls who literally thought I was some superior being and that I knew solutions to all problems, so there was no way I could've freaked out at
that time-I didn't want to crush their hopes.
I just gathered some patience and imagined myself as a super adventurous
person and jumped right away. I wish there was a video of the 'going down the
mountain act'. The girls were finding it funny for sometime but later they were
almost into tears-there was a lot of slipping, sliding happening and on top of
that there were thorny bushes, really sharp thorny bushes :( I got pocked and
got myself scratched several times infact one of the girls got scratched on the face!
Those girls were frail bodied, so it was a bit too much for them to take. I could see how difficult it was for them-I was sort of feeling bad for them . However, we kept at
it and continued walking, oops adventuring down the mountain. On the way down I remembered that Sarita (one of the girls) mentioned that it would be convenient to go down the dried
river-sounded to me like a good idea so I was aiming the dried river path.
Somehow I got there, but that wasn't the end, getting down on that route was
something. I had to try out surefooting several times-you know one of those
times when you step on the rock or mud to make sure it wouldn't slip. After several front and back face on
the rocks I managed to reach the road. I was really tired, I'd
walked almost 10 kms and didn't had breakfast in the morning, my legs started
to feel weak and all I wanted to do was to collapse. But I didn't have a
choice, I met with two young boys on the way who told us that the meeting was
happening some place up the hill. There was no way I was willing to go uphill after the
downhill adventure---but then said, oh well, and moved on!
By the way, on my way I managed to find a sweetshop that had only one kind of sweet, but they'd made two different shapes, circles and squares, it was really good!

Oh and also it was great moving around with those local girls-they introduced me to some amazing berries on the way, I got a chance to taste Kaphal and Orange Raspberry like fruit. It was very tasty :)
