About time to say Guten Tag!
I went to New Delhi, India to attend a four day long workshop
called Future Workshop: Resource Governance in 21st Century (Jan 14th-17th,
2013), organized by Heinrich Boll Foundation (HBF), Germany and Center for
Science and Environment (CSE), India.
There were 24 participants in total, out of which 10 participants were
from Afghanistan and 14 were from India.
The group comprised of people from diverse academic and professional
backgrounds such as lawyers, journalists, graduate students, researchers,
consultants, NGO personnel, and social entrepreneurs. During the workshop these diverse minds
pooled in their experiences and creativity to discuss and resolve key natural
resource management problems. There were several environmental issues/topics
that were discussed, but the ones that generated extensive discussion were
Biodiversity Conservation, Water Governance, Mining, and Power Supply. The
participants worked in groups and cruised through three planning phases of the
resource issues: Problem phase, Vision Phase and Realization phase. The process
started out with developing a Vision Statement for 2025 and 2050 and eventually
narrowed down to developing a realistic 7-year Resource Governance Working Plan
for 2020.
The workshop involved extensive brainstorming and mind-mapping
of ideas; it served as a great platform for in-depth discussions, arguments and
disagreements, sharing knowledge and experience, and most of all learning from
each other.
At the end of the workshop, I was chosen as one of the
delegates to represent India Workshop at a Resource Summit in September 2013 in
Berlin, Germany. I am really excited to share the ideas, messages and the
spirit of the workshop at the Summit and to explore Germany and other parts of Europe too! :)
